What is the IOSH Level 6 Diploma?
The IOSH Level 6 Diploma is a professional qualification built on the IOSH competency framework. It combines advanced technical OSH knowledge with behavioural and business skills. It is designed for people who manage, or want to manage, OSH policy, procedures and practice, and who report to or sit within a senior leadership team.

The 3 units
Unit 1: Advanced OSH management principles in organisations
Covers health and safety law, governance, OSH management systems, performance management, continuous improvement and risk identification. You learn to apply, develop and evaluate different management approaches in a real organisation.
Unit 2: OSH integration within an organisation
Focuses on evaluating OSH performance and understanding the internal and external factors that shape OSH decisions. It covers incident management, investigation, reporting, incident cost analysis and integrating safety risk into business risk processes.
Unit 3: Leading and influencing in OSH
Builds your leadership skills so you can influence, challenge and drive change in OSH at every level of an organisation.

Who can study the IOSH Level 6 Diploma?
Entry requirements
- Aged 19 or over
- Either a Level 3 OSH qualification (for example, a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent) or a minimum of two years of applied OSH experience

You are brand new to health and safety. The diploma is designed for people who already work in the field. If you are starting out, begin with an entry-level qualification, then return to Level 6 once you have experience.
How the assessment works
There are no written exams. You are assessed through work-based assignments built on real workplace situations:
- A technical evaluation assignment (Unit 1)
- An OSH strategic proposal across Units 2 and 3
- A self-reflection assignment (Unit 3)

CertIOSH eligibility
CertIOSH is the Certified Member grade of IOSH (formerly GradIOSH). IOSH lists the IOSH Level 6 Diploma as one of the degree-level qualifications accepted for Certified membership.
To apply, IOSH requires a Level 6 health and safety qualification, at least two years of professional experience, and evidence of your continuing professional development (CPD). CertIOSH membership requirements

CertIOSH is the gateway to Chartered status (CMIOSH), which IOSH describes as the highest professional credential in occupational safety and health. Progression is through IOSH’s Professional Development Assessment (PDA), which typically takes up to 18 months.
TSP eligibility: the BCSP Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP) route
M2Y Global Academy’s IOSH Level 6 Diploma is recognised by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) as a Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP).
What is the TSP?
The Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP) is a BCSP designation for graduates of programs that meet BCSP’s QEP standards. The TSP satisfies the Qualified Credential requirement for the CSP, so holders can apply directly for the CSP once they meet its other requirements.

Good to know
- The TSP is a designation, not a certification.
- You must apply within your program’s applicable dates, and upload your official certificate showing the date you received it.
- TSP holders must apply for and pass the CSP exam within six years of the TSP being awarded.
- TSP holders pay an annual fee to keep the designation active.

CSP eligibility: what you need
The Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is one of the most respected safety certifications in the world. The IOSH Level 6 Diploma helps you meet one of its requirements, but not all of them.
BCSP’s requirements for the CSP
You need at least a bachelor’s degree, four years of experience with at least 50% of your time on preventative, professional-level safety duties, and a BCSP qualified credential. You must also pass the CSP exam.
