Course Overview

This course’s objective is to provide participants with the information and abilities needed to conduct initial, follow-up, and third-party audits of environmental management systems against ISO 14001:2015, in compliance with ISO 19011:2018, and ISO/IEC 17021, where appropriate. Unless otherwise specified, all references in this document to ISO standards refer to their most recent iterations.

The training criteria for first certification as an IRCA EMS auditor will be satisfied by attendees who successfully finish this CQI and IRCA Certified ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor (EMS) Training course (within the five years previous to filing an application to become a certificated auditor).

  2. Essential definitions to help you interpret and audit ISO 14001 requirements.
  3. The purpose, intent and key requirements of ISO 14001 and similarities with ISO 9001.
  4. The contribution that audits make to the effectiveness of a management system.

5. The roles and responsibilities of an auditor and lead auditor

6. How to determine environmental aspects and impacts. The importance and relevance of environmental aspects and impacts, and environmental legislation

7. How to plan your audits

8. That auditing for conformity can improve the stability and robustness of management systems

9. To gather objective evidence through observation, interviewing and reviewing documentation

10. To report findings accurately against the requirements of  ISO 14001, write and grade non-conformity reports and evaluate proposals for corrective action

11. The certification requirements to become a registered audit/lead auditor with IRCA.
